The Judgement Tower in Lent was built in the 16th century as part of the additional city fortifications against the Ottoman invasions. The tower has had several names through time: the Port Tower, the Round Tower, the Monastery Tower. The name still in use today, Judgement Tower, comes from the association with trials against women accused of witchcraft that took place in the tower. However, it is said that nobody has ever been executed here.
